Part 05 · Using it · Lanes

Reviewing the plan before you cook

Every lane, dependency and time estimate is yours to change before anything starts.

Where this is in iWhisk

After Cook with Cooper, the review screen

The plan opens marked Cooking Lanes, review required, with a plain instruction: confirm every lane, dependency and active-work estimate before cooking. This step is not a formality you can skip, and that is deliberate. Cooper is guessing at your kitchen, and you are not.

5.03.1

What sits on every step

  • Lane. Which stream of work this belongs to.
  • Active work, in minutes. How long you are actually busy, not how long it sits.
  • Depends on steps. What has to be done first.
  • Merge point. Where this rejoins the rest of the dish.
  • Attention. Low, medium or high.
  • Dependency note. A line in your own words, such as "start after bacon is rendered and removed from pot in step 1".
Attention is not difficultyA step can be easy and still need all of you. Searing beef in batches is not hard, but look away and it burns, so it is marked high. Preheating an oven is one minute of low attention. The two are measuring different things.

Use this plan, or cancel

Nothing is saved until you press Use this plan. Cancel leaves the recipe exactly as it was, still cookable one step at a time.

A saved plan is private to you, leaves the original recipe unchanged, and does not need building again while it lasts. It does carry an expiry date, shown on the recipe as "saved until" a given day, so a plan you built for last weekend may not still be there next month.
