The lane map, and the independent clocks

Every lane keeps its own clock, and not one of them starts itself.

Cook with Cooper on a recipe with a lane plan

With a plan saved, Cook with Cooper gains a second half. The left is still the step you are on, large, with its active-work and attention marked. The right is all work: every lane, side by side, with the steps you have finished ticked and the ones ahead greyed back.

The counter at the top counts the whole service rather than one lane, so 2 of 11 means two steps done across all five.

5.04.1

Choosing how much you see at once

The lane map can be more than you want mid-cook, so how it opens is a setting rather than a fixed choice. Under Food preferences, cooking guidance offers three:

  • Lead me one move at a time. One guided lane, clear cues and extra explanation.
  • Coordinate the key moments. Current and next tasks, timers, dependencies and merge points.
  • Show me the whole service. Opens on the lane map, with overlap warnings and pacing.

The app states the limit of that setting plainly, and so will we: it changes the starting view only. It does not change recipe access, your rank, or your Journey.

5.04.2

Nothing starts a timer for you

Every clock runs independently and every one waits for you to press Start. The app is explicit about it: start the wait when its step reaches that point, then keep coordinating the rest.

This is the right way round. A plan that started its own timers would be guessing when you actually put the pan on, and would be wrong most evenings.

The estimates are Cooper’s, and your kitchen is yoursActive-work minutes are a proposal you confirmed, not a measurement. Your hob, your pan and your knife speed are not in the model. Treat a lane that consistently runs long as something to edit rather than something you are failing at.

On a phone the lanes stack

The map is a wide layout by nature, so on a phone the lanes stack one under another rather than sitting side by side. Nothing is removed. It is the same plan, read down instead of across.
