Six quick habits worth having
Six habits that pay back the same evening, and none of them need the app.
None of this needs iWhisk. It is the kind of thing a friend who cooks a lot would tell you standing in your kitchen, and most of it costs nothing to adopt.
Read the whole recipe first
All of it. Find out now that it needs an hour of chilling, not at half past seven.
One bowl for the bin
Peelings and packaging go in it. You will walk to the bin about twenty fewer times.
Substitute one thing at a time
Two swaps in the same dish and you will never know which one caused the result.
Herbs: one third when dried
Dried herbs are more concentrated and want to go in earlier. Fresh go in at the end.
Cook once, eat twice
Doubling a braise costs almost no extra time and buys you a whole evening later in the week.
Leftovers at the front
Leftovers at the back of the shelf are leftovers you are going to throw away.

Why these six
They are the habits that pay back the same evening. Reading the recipe first is the only one that feels like a delay, and it is the one that prevents the most trouble.
Substituting one thing at a time is the least obvious. When two swaps go into the same dish and it comes out wrong, there is no way to know which one to blame, so you learn nothing and repeat it.
Try this in iWhisk
Save the leftovers properly
After you record a cook, iWhisk offers Save leftovers with a servings count and a use-by date. They land in your Kitchen and join the use-first logic like anything else, so they stop being the container nobody opens.
